Patients wait outside Sion Hospital, doctors continue with strike

Another doctor at Sion hospital was allegedly beaten by the patient's family for providing wrong treatment.

Firstpost correspondent spoke to State Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan, who said that the Maharashtra government has promised to promptly fill up the existing 1100 vacancies in security forces.

The High Court also ordered the state government to provide security at all government hospitals in Maharashtra so that doctors can continue their work without fearing for their lives.

The court also directed the government and the management of various hospitals not to take any punitive action against the doctors who were served notice yesterday for not resuming their duties.

March 24 (ANI): Thousands of patients have been left to suffer and bear inconvenience at public hospitals as the resident doctors of Maharashtra continued their strike for the fourth day. Lok Nayak and Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) hospitals said their emergency services ran smoothly, but some planned surgeries had to be cancelled or postponed due to manpower crisis.

He also stated that the government has agreed to all the demands put forth by the striking doctors.

The state government has told the court that medical services in Maharashtra were paralysed because 60 per cent of the resident doctors across the state went on strike.

Advocate General Rohit Deo informed the court that the Devendra Fadnavis-led government had made a decision to deploy more than 1,000 armed guards at civic and government hospitals across the state, Hindustan Times reported. Doctors in Delhi chose to go on strike on Thursday in solidarity. Moreover, I would like to add, that its not about doctors in Maharashtra or Delhi, the issue of violence has become an epidemic across all government hospitals in the country. The guards will be given special training to make them on par with guards in private hospitals.

The High Court, which was to hear the junior doctors' mass leave issue today, has deferred the case till tomorrow, ANI reported.

Over 4,000 resident doctors across Maharashtra have gone on mass leave, agitating against risky working conditions.

Dr Pankaj Solanki, President, FORDA, told Mail Today: 'About 40,000 resident doctors of at least 40 hospitals have chose to go on mass leave on Thursday between 9am to 4pm.

Dr Vijay Gurjar, President, Resident doctors" Association of AIIMS told Mail Today: "We don't want to get our eyes, limbs to be hit and broken severely by patient's attendants. Indian Medical Association (IMA), which has around 2.7 lakh members across India, has extended support to the strike, while Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has called for OPD bandh on Friday.
