How Apple makes sure the Apple Watch doesn't harm your skin

This number, though, is in relation to the many Apple stores, corporate offices, and data centers and does not reflect the current material usage and procurement for its devices. Breaking away from its "historic" trends of serious advertisements, ahead of the Earth Day, Apple has released a set of videos giving a crash course in environmental protection that seem like a page from a comics.

The report, however, also poses a weighty question, and one that won't be easy for a complex tech titan with $218.12 billion in revenue and $45.22 billion in profits. While a year ago renewable energy comprised approximately 93% of the energy used in its facilities, it has since then grown to 96%.

Moreover, on the Earth Day Apple employees will change from their standard blue shirts to Green Earth Day shirts. The report goes into considerably more detail about how Apple has created Material Risk Profiles to identify global, social, environmental, and supply risk factors and thereby determine which materials to prioritize, and describing some of Apple's recycling initiatives and successes within its own supply chain and landfill waste reduction.

"We think asking insane questions leads to the innovation behind some of our most significant efforts, and we are proud of the real work being done by real Apple employees on a daily basis to minimize our impact on the planet", says Jackson. In 2016, 96 per cent of the electricity used at our global facilities came from renewable energy, reducing our carbon emissions by almost 585,000 metric tons.

The most interesting of Apple's goals for the future is a stated desire to manufacture 100 percent of its devices out of recycled materials rather than mining new materials and throwing out used materials.

Just in time for Earth Day, Apple pledged to "stop mining the earth altogether" for rare minerals, metals, and materials used to create its products.

In an official response, Greenpeace praised Apple but called on the company, and its peers, to focus on building devices that last longer.

As a part of the celebration, Apple told about its new headquarters based in Cupertino, California. This is done to see how various products such as the Apple Watch react to it. "We believe our goal should be a closed-loop supply chain, where products are built using only renewable resources or recycled material", said the company.

The company has already begun work on looking into ways to reuse materials; for example melting down the aluminium cases of the iPhone 6 to make Mac mini computers to use in its factories and is now moving towards to 100 per cent recycled tin solder on the main logic board of the iPhone 6s. However, there's one MAJOR problem: Apple doesn't know how or when they're going to make it all happen.
