Family Kicked Off Delta Flight After Refusing To Give Up Seat

The latest United States airline to apologise over incidents on board their flights said it was "sorry for the unfortunate experience".

Delta apologized for the incident on Thursday, one day after Brian and Brittany Schear posted a video online showing them being told to leave during a dispute over a seat they had bought for their teenage son.

A YouTube video of the incident had clocked up more than two million views by this morning.

Delta Airlines said in a statement to CBS: "We are sorry for what this family experienced". "Delta's goal is to always work with customers in an attempt to find solutions to their travel issues. Our team has reached out, and we will be talking with them to better understand what happened and come to a resolution".

Brian and Brittany Schear of Huntington Beach, California, said they were traveling with their two toddlers when they were booted from a Los Angeles-bound Delta flight from Hawaii.

According to the family, they've purchased the seat initially for their 18-year-old son but let him fly on an earlier flight instead so Grayson could have the seat.

Later, the crew member tells Schear that remaining in his seat is a federal offense, and that if he remains he'll end up in jail and his child in foster care.

"It's a federal offense if you don't abide by it", she adds, to which Schear snaps, "I bought that seat!" The airline has responded with one and said they are offering to compensate them for their trouble.

CBS Los Angeles reports a family in Southern California is demanding an apology from Delta Airlines for being kicked off of an overbooked flight.

Schear responded by saying the 2-year-old sat in a vehicle seat on the way to Maui. The airline wanted to put another passenger in the seat.

Early in the Maui video, Schear is seen being told that if he doesn't abide by the crew's order to give up a seat occupied by his toddler (in a vehicle seat), he and his family would be kicked off the plane.

It said it had contacted the Californian couple to refund their travel expenses and give additional compensation. "For kids under the age of two, we recommend you purchase a seat on the aircraft and use an approved child safety seat". With armed security personnel standing in the aisle of the plane, Schear says the airline would need to remove them. "This whole thing has made me so angry and. you know. with the money that I'm out for the tickets, I couldn't care less about that", he said.

This the latest airline incident to gain national attention.United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz recently testified before Congress and apologized for an incident in which a passenger was forcibly removed from an overbooked flight.

Later, he told CBS News, "The bottom line is, they oversold the flight".
