Harvey suspended, Stanton hits 2 HRs, Marlins beat Mets 7-0

Unnamed team sources told the New York Daily News that this suspension dated back to issues that had begun previous year, and former Met Paul Lo Duca called Harvey's actions "indefensible". "It was pretty early", Mattingly said. Mets sources claimed the team was simply checking on the pitcher after messages had gone unreturned, while those close to Harvey say he saw it as the team trying to see if he was actually at home and truly ill. He showed up to the ballpark on Sunday but was sent home. "He's just a big guy, a big figure on our club".

The team said the suspension started on Saturday, meaning he'll be eligible to pitch on Tuesday. "Today was the best I've felt in a long time", he said.

The New York rotation is already an infirmary and now with Harvey suspended becomes all the worse.

"There were rules here that were not adhered to and we took a stance", said Mets manager Terry Collins during the post-game news conference. The 425-foot moonshot put the Marlins up 4-0, which was more than enough run support for Jose Urena. He also struck out two hitters.

"At this point, we've been treading water and feeling like we've been sinking a little bit", manager Don Mattingly said.

Despaigne (0-1) came up from the minor leagues to make his first big league start since September 13, 2015, for San Diego at San Francisco.

Stanton is up to 20 homers at Citi Field, the most of any visiting player at the ballpark, and has six multi-homer games there.

On Saturday, the New York Mets scratched right-hander Matt Harvey from Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Left-hander Adam Wilk, who pitched in place of Harvey, was designated for assignment Monday, when lefty Tommy Milone was added to the active roster.

NOTES: Marlins INF Miguel Rojas started at third base but left after the first inning with a jammed right thumb. Now Noah Syndergaard, who decided he didn't need an MRI the week before last, is on the disabled list for months because of a partially torn lat muscle.

An injury to Johan Santana in 2012 saw Harvey promoted to the majors from the Mets' Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons, where he had a record of 7-5 and 3.68 ERA.

NY is missing Syndergaard (latissimus dorsi), outfielder Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring), first baseman Lucas Duda (elbow), catcher Travis dArnaud (wrist), left-hander Steven Matz (elbow), right-hander Seth Lugo (elbow), third baseman David Wright (recovery from neck surgery) and outfielder Brandon Nimmo (hamstring).
