Senate committee subpoenas disgraced Trump adviser Michael Flynn over Russian Federation

"Former U.S. President Barack Obama warned then-President-elect Donald Trump not to give the post of national security adviser in his administration to Michael Flynn who was eventually fired in a controversy about ties to Russian Federation, a former Obama aide said". The person "we don't even know" referred to Sally Yates, who happens to be the Justice Department official that Trump named as acting Attorney General.

Flynn was sacked by Trump after less than a month on the job.

Yates, a longtime federal prosecutor and Obama administration holdover, was sacked January 31 by Trump after refusing to defend the administration's travel ban.

"There's partly a credibility component here", she said of why it took longer to fire Flynn, adding the recommendation to do so came from political opponents.

Flynn resigned his national security adviser position in February after he admitted to misleading the administration about conversations he had with the Russian ambassador to the U.S.

On Monday, Yates confirmed that she'd warned the White House about Flynn.

The February resignation followed media reports that Flynn had discussed US -imposed sanctions on Russian Federation with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition period, which was contrary to the public representations of the White House.

Mr Clapper declined to answer a question about concern over any Russian ties to Mr Trump's business interests.

Flynn's lawyer, Robert Kelner, has said that Flynn was not hiding anything, noting that he briefed the DIA on his trip to Russian Federation. Flynn served under Obama as defense intelligence chief before Obama dismissed him.

She's also the one who told Trump's White House that Flynn was not only compromised, and not only lying about his Russian contacts, but that the "underlying conduct" Flynn was lying about was itself problematic.

1, during the daily news briefing at the White House, in Washington.

After the hearing Monday, Trump tweeted: "The Russia-Trump collusion story is a total hoax, when will this taxpayer funded charade end?" The revelation came after interviews with a host of former USA officials, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to discuss sensitive national security information. The committee has invited Comey to testify in a closed session Tuesday.

Flynn has been a focus of investigations into Russian Federation and the election.

The committee, led by Sens.
