Vaccine alliance says 300000 doses of Merck's Ebola shot available for emergencies

One person has died after testing positive for the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the World Health Agency has said. Three people have died of fever.

A spokesperson of the WHO, Eric Kabambi, has assured there is no cause for alarm since "the case is in a very remote zone, very forested".

A conference call between DRC and vehicle officials, as well as World Health Organization experts, had taken place, Kabambi said, during which auto officials confirmed that they too were taking preventative measures along the border.

Since Ebola virus was first identified in 1976, sporadic outbreaks have been reported in Africa.

This vast, impoverished Central African nation has had seven known previous Ebola outbreaks, including one in 2014 with several dozen cases.

The country was tracking an outbreak of hemorrhagic fever, including nine "suspected" cases of Ebola since April 22.

The outbreak could test a recently developed experimental Ebola vaccine that World Health Organization says could be used in emergencies.

Medics with Doctors Without Borders put on protective gear at an isolation ward of the Donka Hospital in Guinea in 2014 during the Ebola outbreak. More than 28,600 people were infected and more than 11,300 died. Members of the Emergency Committee, created to monitor the situation in the continent, agreed that the situation in West Africa now "no longer constitutes" a public health emergency of global concern. Thousands more survivors have been left with long-term health problems and Liberia was only declared free of active Ebola virus transmission last June.
