Sean Spicer defends White House following Sally Yates' testimony on Michael Flynn

President Donald Trump attempted to discredit two former Obama administration officials who testified in a Congressional hearing Monday about his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

Former acting U.S. Attorney General Sally Yates was sacked by President Trump in January after she refused to enforce his travel ban.

Further, said Klobuchar, the Trump administration chose to keep Flynn on an additional 18 days after Yates' warning, "and in fact, two days after having this warning allowed him to sit in on an hour-long telephone call between the president of the United States and [Russian President] Vladimir Putin". Trump fired Yates Jan. 30 after she said the Justice Department would not defend the president's proposed travel ban. She informed the counsel's office that there were materials that were relevant to the situation, but it wasn't until about seven days later that they had access to those documents.

It's clear from recent revelations that President Obama and his holdovers had a morbid fear of Lt. Gen. Flynn, an anti-Islamic terror hawk, and were gunning for him early in the transition, long before rumors he was involved in any alleged Russian conspiracy.

What happened in the 18 days between when the White House received a warning about Flynn and his firing?

These untruths, she warned, could potentially open the National Security Adviser up to blackmail by the Russian government. Yates stated that she has no way of knowing "what, if anything" was done about the matter, and that "If nothing was done, then certainly that would be concerning".

Trump fired Flynn in February, after Flynn had been in the national security post just 24 days. And just as needless to say, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer is refusing to answer any queries regarding whatever he was up to during that time.

So it is now confirmed, under oath, by former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates.

Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island has accused the White House of being more interested in protecting President Donald Trump from scandal than safeguarding national security.

Spicer also slammed Yates, referring to her as "someone who is not exactly a supporter of the president's agenda" and who was widely rumored to have supported Hillary Clinton for president. "And that created a compromise situation, a situation where the national security adviser essentially could be blackmailed by the Russians".

Russian officials also knew Flynn's misleading recounts of those conversations were inaccurate.

Yates for example testified that she had seen a readout of an interview Flynn gave to the Federal Bureau of Investigation during January, before she headed to meet McGahn.

Yates disclosed that she had spoken with McGahn about the matter on January 26 and January 27, adding that he had "demonstrated that he understood that this was serious".

But Sen. Richard Blumenthal of CT deliberately raised the question of Flynn's possible guilt in an exchange with Yates.
