Coroner: Killer Brady's ashes mustn't be scattered on moor

The circumstances of twisted Brady's death were not suspicious, the inquest heard.

The sadistic crimes of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley shocked the nation to its core. She died never having found her son Keith and always believed Brady could provide details that would have identified where his body was buried. He will never give up and none of us will ever give up supporting him.

After half a century behind bars, the Moors Murderer, who sexually assaulted, tortured and murdered several children and young people.

He died of cancer at Merseyside's Ashworth Hospital, a high secure institution where he has been held since 1985 after being declared criminally insane.

His victims were Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey and Edward Evans, aged between 10 and 17.

The couple repeated the method roughly every six months, picking up 12-year-old John Kilbride at a market in Ashton-under-Lyne, Keith Bennett, also 12, as he walked to his grandmother's home in Longsight, and finally Lesley Ann Downey.

The 79 year old, tortured and murdered five children along with his partner Myra Hindley.

He said they discussed Brady's legal wishes and arrangements for his funeral, which he said he could not make public presently but added "in due course these will become available".

Mr Makin told Radio 4's Today programme: "I would be very surprised if he really had information that was useful".

Deep within this was this battle between him and the victims - the families - who just wanted this one piece of information... where this young boy was buried.

Martin Botsomli, head of the Cold Case Review Unit, said the officers would act with "credible information" to help them find his body.

Had the Brady and Hindley not made a crucial blunder in involving Hindley's brother-in-law David Smith in their next enterprise, the murder of Edward Evans might not have been their last.

"If he takes it to the grave, I will feel so sorry for Keith's family".

"Whilst we are not actively searching Saddleworth Moors, Greater Manchester Police will never close this case".

"We couldn't even play in the street unless somebody's mum could see us from the window".

"He now takes his place in hell and he can rot there and as far as I am concerned".

"Ashworth Hospital can leave him out for the bin men".

Following a second visit to the moors he insisted he could have found the youngster's grave if the police allowed him more time.

"I would beg him to do the right thing on his deathbed and tell us where Keith is".

He left Glasgow at 16 and moved to live with his natural mother in Manchester after getting in trouble with the law, and assumed his stepfather's name.

Mr Stalker added: "The song brings back bad memories of having to listen to a tape of Hindley and her accomplice Ian Brady torturing a terrified little Lesley Ann Downey with that music playing in the background".

She had been lured to the moors by Hindley, who said she had lost her gloves there and needed help finding them.
