Suspect in mass shooting confesses

Durr was a ventriloquist and spent four years as a Brookhaven police officer before joining the Sheriff's Department two years ago. The flower and tributes are on the cruiser Durr drove.

That includes Caleb's mom, Shayla Edwards, who accompanied Tiffany Blackwell into her home, where the lifeless bodies of Austin and Jordan remained in the living room.

Mourners hold hands and pray on Monday to remember Austin Edwards, the slain son of Shayla Edwards (c.).

.). The identities of the other victims were not immediately released. Durr was married and had an 11-year-old son, CBS News reported.

The shooting spree began at approximately 11:30 p.m. with a domestic call from Vincent Mitchell's home on Lee Drive in Bogue Chitto. Willie Corey Godbolt was arrested on Sunday and is expected to face murder charges.

The sheriff's deputy killed during a MS shooting rampage was a father, husband and former pastor who "loved to lead children to the Lord", his family and friends have revealed.

A MS man accused of killing eight people showed little emotion during his first court appearance.

He's the stepfather-in-law of suspect Willie Corey Godbolt.

At that, Godbolt "just started shooting", Caleb said.

However, Godbolt will survive his injuries. It's unclear whether authorities will complete their investigation in time for the next Lincoln County grand jury meeting in late June.

Strain said investigators were gathering evidence at all three locations.

WJTV is learning more about the victims of the weekend shooting rampage.

Godbolt had a different message - he said he did not intend for police to capture him alive. "Somebody called the officer, people that didn't even live at the house, but that's what they do".

Among those who were killed, seven were known by or related to the suspect and one, a deputy sheriff, was unknown to him. A man was arrested Sunday in the sh.

"He was a great guy", Sheriff Steve Rushing said. "And the deputy said, "C'mon Mr. Godbolt, let's go, ' and he shot him". At least seven hours elapsed between the first shootings and Godbolt's arrest near the final crime scene in a subdivision of ranch houses in Brookhaven, a few miles from Bogue Chitto.

Godbolt, while handcuffed and on the ground, told The Clarion-Ledger newspaper shortly after his arrest that his intention was to be killed by police. One was in Bogue Chitto, an unincorporated community of about 500 people.

Those killed at the third scene on East Lincoln Road in Brookhaven were Ferral Burage, 45; and Shelia Burage, 46.

A man accused of fatally shooting eight people in MS has been released from a hospital. Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain says those charges could change as the investigation continues. Godbolt was listed in good condition at a hospital with a gunshot wound; authorities did not say how he was wounded.

Strain said that it would be "premature" to discuss a motive.

It's unclear whether Godbolt has obtained a lawyer.

A courageous teen used his body to shield his cousin from a barrage of bullets during a MS gunman's weekend rampage that left eight people dead, including a cop.

"I never would have thought in a million years that he would hurt the kids", Shon Blackwell said of Godbolt.

Authorities say the 36-year-old deputy was killed Saturday when he responded to a call about a domestic disturbance. He says: "I'm devastated".

The 15-year-old talked to The Associated Press on Monday with his mother by his side. He was waiting for an initial court appearance to be scheduled.
