Saudi foreign minister says working on list of Qatar "grievances"

Disruption (by others) will not stop because the truth terrifies them. The statement, quoting an unnamed official, said Saudi Arabia "does not need such thing", adding that its armed forces and military capabilities were "at the best standards". Riyadh sealed its border, closed its air space to Qatari Airways and - along with Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt - severed diplomatic relations. The minister, Adel al-Jubeir, said Qatar should respond to demands to halt its support for "extremism and terrorism" which, he said, were being made by the whole world and not just Gulf states.

On these grounds, actions taken against Qatar under the initiative of Saudi Arabia and the United States are devoid of any legitimate reason and tend to generate a major crisis in the Middle East.

A check by IndiaToday.in found that while the @AJArabic Twitter account did return a "this account has been suspended" page on Twitter earlier on Saturday, the account seemed to have been restored by around 2.30 pm (Indian time).

The crisis has forced Qatar to seek help - including from Iran.

When it is becoming obvious that the very objective of Riyadh summit and the so-called IMA was to isolate Iran and now Qatar, Pakistan must seek an immediate withdrawal from that alliance before it is too late.

There are a number of converging interests between Turkey and Qatar, he says.

The current dispute in the region is an extension of a 2014 row, when Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain temporarily recalled their ambassadors from Doha over what they said to be Qatar's support for Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood.

Bloomberg reports that the $12-billion deal was signed by Qatari defence minister Khalid Al-Attiyah and his USA counterpart, Jim Mattis in Washington on Wednesday.

Tillerson's efforts have been hindered by mixed messages from the administration.

On June 14, the US signed a $12 billion deal to supply dozens of F-15 jets to Qatar, despite recent high-profile claims by US President Donald Trump alleging Qatar's "high-level funding" of terrorism.

"How sustainable is the Turkish relief effort?"

"Turkey's role has been interesting and I have to say I have been a bit surprised by how vocal Turkey has been in offering support to Qatar because Turkey does want to keep good relations with other players in the region", Juneau says.
