JK Rowling marks 20 years since Harry Potter appeared

Wizarding legend Harry Potter's tale has turned 20.

Other social platforms are joining in the Harry Potter fun, too.

Facebook's latest Easter egg is a tip of the Sorting Hat to Harry Potter in celebration of the vicennial of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (later retitled "the Sorcerer's Stone" in America). "It's not a title you see in the window at your local Barnes & Noble".

Rowling, who was a struggling, divorced mother when she wrote the first Potter book, has conjured quite a world.

A quote from a bookstore manager marveling at the fact that they've sold "hundreds" of copies.

Twitter is showing their Harry Potter appreciation by launching a special emoji that shows up with the hashtag #HarryPotter20. They have attracted a wide adult audience as well as younger readers, and are often considered cornerstones of modern young adult literature.

3- J.K. Rowling took an exceptional risk to have her fictional character grown up at the exact rate as her reader.

She told ITV's Lorraine: "To see that was okay, that was empowering, so I wrote to her and she wrote back and we became pen friends before I got the role".

On the stage: While the seventh novel in the Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", was meant to be the end of the boy wizard's story, Rowling continued the saga with a stage play, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", which opened on London's West End in 2016.

"It's become disproportionately significant in terms of its reach into modern children's publishing, a total game-changer - and the rest, as they say, is history", he told AFP.

The Hogwarts school houses are also coloured according to their corresponding house colours when users type their names into Facebook, so for example the word Slytherin appears to be green. The Harry Potter books stay with people, stay in their hearts, in a way I've never known with anything else.

Pottermania over the past two decades has led to eight movies, a hit play and numerous spin-off books. Over the past twenty years, however, things have changed a bit; in 2016 the Sunday Times Rich List estimated Rowling to be worth around £600 million, making her the 197th richest person in the UK.
