Actor and comedian Bill Cosby (L) leaves Montgomery County Courthouse with his attorney Brian McMonagle after the fourth day of deliberations in his sexual assault trial in Norristown, Pa., on Thu., June 15, 2017.
Early Thursday, the panel told the court they were deadlocked on each of the three counts against Cosby, but Montgomery County Judge Steven O'Neill urged them to continue deliberations.
Keeping in mind the high profile nature of the trial, where if found guilty, Cosby faces up to 30 years of jail time for three counts of aggravated indecent assault against former Temple University basketball staffer Andrea Constand in 2004, the judge refused to impose a deadline for the jury deliberations.
Constand and other accusers say Cosby - the star of the 1980s hit TV comedy The Cosby Show - often plied them with pills and alcohol before assaulting them in a series of incidents over four decades.
O'Neill rejected a motion from Cosby's lawyers for a mistrial on Thursday morning.
Sources who have been close with jurors told YC that they have been giving select jurors the silent treatment when leaving the courthouse and entering the hotel. The charges stem from a 2004 sexual encounter with Constand. Allison held the woman's hand as she tried to persuade her to change her mind and told the woman she would have had the same opinion if she had never been alone in a room with Cosby.
Johnson testified that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1996, while Cosby acknowledged in depositions that he gave young women sedatives in the 1970s.
The case stems from accusations from Andrea Constand who's case was the only one filed before the statue of limitations had expired.
Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, says only that the jury is "apparently working very hard" to reach agreement on the charges. He says he gave her an over-over-the-counter cold and allergy medicine to help her relax and that the encounter was consensual.
After reviewing the five days of testimony from the prosecution, six minutes of testimony from the defense, and closing statements, the jury has been unable to come to a decision.
According to sources, Bill, 79, couldn't stop smiling at the news.
The AP does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.
