Indeed, Ford's upcoming Police Responder Hybrid Sedan pitches its gas-electric powertrain specifically as a way to avoid burning unnecessary fuel while the auto is idle.

It's also the most geographically capable cruiser, equipped with four-wheel drive to make it more hard for those incredibly entertaining police chases that jump from the highway through some cattle pasture and go on for 45 minutes longer than anyone should be comfortable with.

The truck has a versatile 5-1/2′ box for cargo and a Class IV trailer hitch is standard, with a Trailer Tow Package available. The back seats and floor are covered in heavy-duty vinyl so that nasty messes can be cleaned up easily.

The interior is upfit-ready and it features a column shifter, heavy-duty cloth front seats with slim bolsters and anti-stab plates, vinyl rear seating and heavy-duty vinyl flooring-easy for cleanup.

Engineered for on- and off-road terrain, the Responder will be suitable for use in rural environments such as those patrolled by sheriff departments, border patrol or fish and game authorities. We've reached to clarify what, exactly, it takes to be pursuit-rated and will update when we hear.

The 2018 F-150 Police Responder will go on sale in the spring of 2018.
