Grand Jury Seated For Investigation Into Russia's Involvement In US Election

Trump, who has repeatedly slammed the investigation as a "witch hunt", argued in a July interview with The New York Times that his financial transactions represented a red line that Mueller should not cross in his investigation.

Robert Mueller, who is conducting the investigation, has issued grand jury subpoenas related to Donald Trump Jr's meeting with a Russian lawyer last summer.

According to US news outlets, special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into US President Donald Trump's financial ties with Russian Federation. It's unclear if it's using the same grand jury from an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn or an entirely different one.

"We won because we totally outworked the other side", Trump said Thursday. Earlier on Thursday, the U.S. Senate introduced two bills with the express aim to limit the ability of Trump to sack the special prosecutor the way he had sacked James Comey the FBI Director when he started investigating deeply into the connection of Trump's team with Russian Federation.

A former senior intelligence official tells NBC the special counsel is looking at whether the president obstructed justice. Said prosecutors can subpoena witnesses and/or documents to put before the grand jury, legally compelling those individuals to either produce said documents or testify under oath.

Just because a grand jury has been set up doesn't mean indictments are going to start flowing.

"Grand jury matters are typically secret". It is also another step forward in the process that could result in former members of the Trump campaign and current members of the Trump White House facing criminal charges.

Clapper also expressed outrage that transcripts of Trump's phone calls with Mexico's President and Australia's Prime Minister were leaked.

Sources told The Wall Street Journal the jury began investigating the alleged meddling in recent weeks and will likely continue for a number of months. "The White House favors anything that accelerates the conclusion of his work fairly", Cobb said in a statement.

Still, Trump and other White House officials said they hope the convening of a grand jury will speed up the conclusion of the Russian Federation investigation, which has dogged his presidency since the outset, according to RFE/RL.
