Jaguars aren't letting Branden Albert return after retirement

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because neither side has publicly discussed details about Albert's potential return.

But it most likely will not be for the Jaguars.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Jacksonville could lose the draft pick if they cannot recoup Albert's signing bonus if he does not return to the team.

Albert announced July 31 he was hanging up his cleats with the intention of "furthering and finishing" his education, but the 32-year-old met with Jaguars officials over the weekend about his plans to come out of retirement. The Dolphins were planning to release Albert before the Jaguars expressed interest in trading for him.

Branden Albert might want a reunion with the Jaguars, but the feeling is not mutual.

It was never clear why Albert, who was battling second-round draft pick Cam Robinson for a starting job, chose to walk away after nine National Football League seasons. On Tuesday, the Jaguars placed Albert on the reserve/retired list. He is also subject to fines of up for the days he was away from the team.

The Patriots held their tenth practice of training camp on Monday this time they were joined by the Jacksonville Jaguars on the Gillette practice fields.

Albert was selected to two Pro Bowls for the Kansas City Chiefs and Dolphins and could provide a needed boost along the line for Jacksonville.

Albert played three seasons for the Dolphins from 2014-2016 after signing a five-year, $47 million contract at the time. But if Albert isn't really into playing anymore, or isn't in good shape, is he that big of a help? He bounced back the following year and was honored with Miami's Ed Block Courage Award.
