Dara Khosrowshahi, the new Uber chief

A spokeswoman for Uber directors said they've chosen a CEO but declined to name the person, saying the board would inform employees first.

The ride-hailing company said it's cooperating with USA investigators looking into whether employees violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

"Expedia and Uber each have to build up supply and demand marketplaces", Khosrowshahi told tnooz.

Kalanick - who has undergone his share of trouble (and also personal tragedy) this year - will also address the crowd gathered at Uber's Market Street headquarters, as well as employees who will be dialing in from all over the world. The company's former CEO Travis Kalanick had to go after he took the company to the cleaners.

The appointment of Khosrowshahi, who described himself as "a fighter", comes as Uber is trying to recover from a series of crises that culminated in the ouster of its former CEO Travis Kalanick in June. The lawsuit, which seeks to force Kalanick off the board and rescind his ability to fill two board seats, has caused shareholder infighting and complicated the CEO search.

In an email to Expedia staff, Khosrowshahi said he was "scared" and had "forgotten what life is outside of this place [Expedia]". Huffington also said that the board vote on his hiring had been unanimous, meaning that Kalanick did not put up the fight that had been expected. He was off the Uber board within hours, and it became the unfortunate Uber meme for a while.

He told Bloomberg News: "Are there difficulties?" This could change under Khosrowshahi, especially as there may be a strong use case for digital currency in some of the emerging markets where Uber operates.

This growth is primarily through expansion in Asia, where the travel tech firm is complementing organic growth with a $350 million minority investment in Southeast Asia's online travel company Traveloka.

Whitman said last week on Twitter she hadn't even considered leaving her role: "We have a lot of work still to do at HPE".

But the hard-charging style that helped Uber succeed also made Kalanick a target for critics.

The note says he'll also meet with small groups of employees and spend time with drivers in the coming weeks.

He inherits at Uber a high-stakes lawsuit filed by Alphabet Inc's Waymo that threatens Uber's self-driving auto business, a board divided by one investor's lawsuit against Kalanick, and an organization struggling to overcome allegations of sexual harassment and executive misconduct.
