Rahkhine state Rohingya: stateless, persecuted, and fleeing Myanmar

In a statement, the demonstrators condemned the global silence on the ongoing crimes against Rohingya in Myanmar and called on the worldwide community to take action to restore the rights of the oppressed Muslims.

Besides, dozens of thousands of non-Muslims civilians are reported to have been displaced within Myanmar. The government of Myanmar denies citizenship rights to the Rohingya and claims instead that they are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

Analysts say Suu Kyi is hampered by the politically incendiary nature of the issue in Myanmar and the fact she has little control over the military.

Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi - a Nobel Peace Prize victor - has been facing widespread criticism for her government's tacit support for the killing of the Rohingyas, with many even calling for a case to be filed against her at the International Court of Justice in The Hague to try her for condoning hate crimes, violence and killings.

Myanmar officials have blamed the fires that have been seen burning in many villages across Rakhine on the Rohingya, who they claim are burning their own homes. Tens of thousands more are believed to be on the move inside Rakhine.

The villager, who spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear for his safety, said "people were scared and running out of the village".

More than 120,000 Rohingya fled over the following five years to Bangladesh and South-East Asia, often braving perilous sea journeys controlled by brutal trafficking gangs.

Last year Pakistan had taken up the case of Rohingya Muslims when Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi told an OIC meeting at the United Nations that, "the worldwide community as a whole, and the OIC in particular, has to come together and play its due role for timely, effective and eventually a permanent solution to this problem".

At least 294,000 Muslim Rohingyas have fled across the border to Bangladesh since fighting broke out on August 25, according to a situation report from the Inter Sector Coordination Group (ISCG) in Bangladesh.

Myanmar on Wednesday announced that it is negotiating with China and Russian Federation to ensure they block any UN Security Council censure over the violence that has forced those people to flee.

"Even if all we get to eat is a plate of rice, we can burn a red chili and mix it and it will taste nice", says a woman in the Kutupalong refugee camp.

The Turkish first lady said Myanmar government could resolve the crisis in a short time if it wished so. Hasina is scheduled to visit Rohingya refugees on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a Pakistani lawyer Barrister Iqbal Jafri has submitted an application to the International Court of Justice seeking registration of a case against Myanmar ruling party head Aung San Suu Kyi and religious leader Ashen Waratho for their alleged involvement in killing of Rohingya Muslims.
