PM Modi welcomes Japan PM Shinzo Abe in Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is eager to agree with his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, on the upgrading of the so-called two-plus-two dialogue during his trip to the South Asian nation starting Wednesday, the sources told Kyodo News. This will be the fourth Annual Summit between Modi and Abe, where they are expected to review the progress of the India- Japan cooperation agreements worked out under the framework of their 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

China and Japan have been competing with each other for the development of bullet trains in India and other regional countries.

Defence cooperation between the two countries could also be one of the issues on the agenda for the Modi-Abe talks with India and Japan engaged in negotiations for purchase of United States 2i surveillance aircraft from Tokyo for several years now.

An India-Japan Business Plenary will also be held.

Further giving the details of the schedule for the Japanese PM's two-day visit, Pravin Patel said that on 14 Sep Narendra Modi along with his Japanese counter part will be attending the ceremony for the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project, commonly referred to as the Bullet Train project. The two leaders will also visit Dandi Kutir, the museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, at the Mahatma Mandir.

"Love and Thanks", Abe wrote in a short message in Japanese on the visitors' log book which was also signed by his wife. Well, we know Japan is the discoverer in high sped rail networks. Prime Minister Modi had visited Japan in November past year while Abe visited India in December 2015.

Tewari said India had a great relationship with Japan and that relationship, its foundations and consolidation had been laid during the UPA regime. New Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said the train will start running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on August 15, 2022 - when India completes 75 years of independence.

With capacity to accommodate 750 people, the bullet train is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities from seven to roughly three hours.

The most important ones are that yesterday ie PM Modi and Shinzo Abe are laying the foundation of the bullet train project.

Abe is seen as a friend of India and ties between India and Japan have warmed dramatically since Abe's re-election as prime minister in December 2012.

In the city, where both the leaders will hold an 8-km long road show from Ahmedabad airport to Sabarmati Ashram, artists from 28 states will perform on 28 locations to give a glimpse of the Indian culture.

The two leaders and Japan's first lady, Akie Abe, left for the ashram in an open vehicle to the accompaniment of music and cultural fanfare. The visit itself would promote the strength of the Japan-U.S. alliance to the world amid a deteriorating security environment in the Asia-Pacific region due to North Korean actions, among other issues.
