Google Launches 'Tez' In India

Google has officially introduced a mobile payments and commerce app in India, called Tez, as was reported would happen last week. Simply link your account to Tez over UPI and instantly transfer money from bank to bank.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, in tune with the Modi government's encouragement for digital payments, has launched Google's mobile wallet and payments app "Tez", specifically designed for India. Instead, it uses the NPCI's (National Payments Corporation of India) UPI system.

Caesar Sengupta, the head of Google's Next Billion programme said that Google is also working on integrating credit and debit card payments through Tez and the feature is expected to roll out later this year. This will allow you to send money using Account number, UPI ID, phone number, or QR code.

Apart from English and Hindi, "Tez" app supports various Indian languages such as Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu.

The app will work more like a traditional mobile wallet where it will link your phone with your bank accounts thereby making your phone a tool to make transactions and deduct money from the linked accounts. Google is also encouraging merchants to set up a business channel so they will be able to easily accept payments using Tez. Post this limit, there will be additional requirements, along with bank fee. The app works as same as like the other Payment applications available in the market. With Tez's Cash Mode, customers can instantly send or receive payments to anyone nearby without sharing personal details such as their phone number or bank account.

If you live in India and curious to know about this new Payment Service, Google Tex, here's our step by step installation tutorial which you need to follow in order to get started with this new Google Tez application. They can also view a list of their friends who are using the app and request and pay money.

For Google Tez, the company has partnered with Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI Bank.

The app is available through both the Play Store and the App Store. This is VPA. This allows instant payments without having to enter receiver account details. PayTM on the other hand requires users to store money in the app and replace the amounts once spent.
