Darren Sproles' season over after dual injuries on same play

It was originally reported that Sproles suffered a broken arm against the Giants that would require surgery to fix. He is expected to have surgery today on his arm. The Eagles have won games they otherwise might not have, if not for big plays on special teams from Sproles.

Sproles' injuries came in the first half of the Eagles game against the Giants on Sunday when he landed awkwardly after a hit from NY safety Darian Thompson.

As you can see, Sproles was initially hit in the arm.

The diminutive, 5ft 6in (1.67m) Sproles, one of the most popular players in the National Football League, is a 12-year veteran who was first drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2005. Thompson stands at 6 foot 1 and 213 pounds.

Sproles likely would have returned this season if just for the broken arm, but the ACL tear means his 2017 is finished.

Adam Schefter says that when Sproles got knocked out of the win over the New York Giants, it was really bad.

"I feel like [after 2017] it will be time", he told ESPN's Tim McManus. Practice squad running back Byron Marshall will be a part of the consideration process as well. The situation makes touches available to LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement.
