Death penalty could be sought in 1990 "killer clown" case

Police in Virginia say they have arrested and extradited a woman believed to be at the center of 27-year-old cold case murder that happened in Palm Beach, Florida.

A news release from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, obtained through our ABC affiliate in Palm Beach, said Sheila Keen Warren, 54, was arrested in Washington County, Va. for the death of Marlene Warren.

Sheila allegedly dressed as a clown and shot Marlene Warren in her home, CBS reports.

Marlene Warrant was reportedly shot in the face and was taken to Palm West Hospital, where she died two days later.

Detectives said Sheila Warren - 26 at the time and then known as Sheila Keen - was initially identified as a suspect, but she was never arrested.

According to their Facebook page, "witnesses were re-contacted and additional DNA analysis was conducted".

The 54-year-old, who married the victim's husband in 2002, had always been suspected by Palm Beach County detectives for having an affair with Michael Warren and playing a role in the murder.

Recent information about Michael and Sheila's current lives was not available, however, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said they ran a restaurant in Tennessee when police arrived to arrest Sheila.

After presenting their case to a grand jury on August 31, officials successfully obtained an indictment for first-degree murder against Keen.

Police learned four months after the shooting he was having an affair with a Sheila Keen.

Warren was arrested without incident in Washington County, Virginia. Orange fibers were also found inside Sheila's apartment, the Sun Sentinel reported.

"They finally found someone", Marlene Warren's mother, Shirley Twing, told ABC News.

Employees of a local costume shop called detectives on the night of the murder and said a woman had bought a clown costume and makeup two days prior. Aherns, who was in cast at the time from a vehicle crash, said he made his way to his mother and yelled at the clown, prompting the shooter to turn around. Michael Warren, 65, has not been charged, but detectives refused to rule him out as a suspect and said he was interviewed again Wednesday. Keen Warren did not resist, and Michael could only watch as the cuffs were slapped on his wife and she was whisked away in a patrol vehicle.

Sheila Keen, then 27, was married at the time to a man named Richard Keen, who was 18 years older.

Despite the efforts of detectives, there wasn't enough DNA evidence at the time to convict either of them.

A woman has been arrested in a 27-year-old cold case involving a freakish love triangle and a clown suit.

"I feel like crying now, but I'm glad it's over". Bill Twing said, taking a long beat. The couple was said to have moved to Tennessee, according to the Washington Post.
